When they came together, the members of Washington, DC?s Object-Oriented Bliss had one goal in mind: to put the Nation?s Capitol on the breakbeat map. If that sounds ambitious, that?s because it is. Washington is a town far better known for its political parties than its dance parties. But what DC lacks in breakbeat notoriety, it more than makes up for in dance music culture.

Home to the legendary Buzz Nightclub and Eighteenth St. Lounge, Washington?s underground has spawned some of the industry?s most renowned and respected DJs and producers including Scott Henry, Deep Dish, and Thievery Corporation. In a town dominated by the progressive groove and downtempo beat; Object-Oriented Bliss has taken it upon themselves to turn DC on its proverbial ear. If there is a beat in DC that is broken, you can be sure that Object-Oriented Bliss broke it.

With an infectious blend of styles that range from dark and intelligent to in-your-face funk, Object-Oriented Bliss (a.k.a. double-OH-bliss) has carved out a loyal following of ?breakbeatniks? among the DC masses. The Object-Oriented Bliss DJs Switchstance (Jathan McCollum), Adegen (Travis Payne), Smalls (Skip Young) and T-Minus42 (Tim Ramsey), have become the DJs of choice for virtually every local breakbeat event in the DC metro area. At the summer 2002 HFStival, the double-OH-bliss DJ?s played to a crowd of over 45,000 attendees in the Skyy Blue Vodka tent. Whether playing in tandem or individually they?ve rocked the house at premier east coast clubs and events, including DC?s Buzz (voted #1 club in America by URB magazine), Ultraworld?s Starscape Festival in Baltimore, Solid Breaks in Philadelphia and S.L.U.T. in New York City.

Adegen and Jen Lasher have been picked up by Release Artist Management and Jen is currently bringing the breaks to all 50 states on her first US tour. In August 2002, Switchstance and Adegen donated their time and talent, playing a 4-hour benefit set in support of RAINN, the Rape and Incest National Network at Nation Nightclub in Washington, DC. The duo keeps busy both behind the decks and in the studio, producing works individually as Switchstance, and Adegen, and together as ?The Fuzz.? As if that weren?t enough, Object-Oriented Bliss, the label, is also under discussion. And while the double-oh-bliss DJs seem to be going in several directions at once, the unifying factor is always their music. And make no mistake, this breakbeat is theirs. Not the UK?s, not Florida?s. This is DC breakbeat: Object-Oriented Bliss breakbeat.
